Jack Burkman’s group the Profiling Project is suing the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and Mayor Muriel Bowser for information on Seth Rich’s murder.
The Profiling Project filed a lawsuit against the D.C. Metropolitan Police today for mismanaging the investigation of Seth Rich’s murder and stonewalling requests for evidence.
The lawsuit demands that the police release the surveillance video footage from a nearby camera at the Flagler Market, the Medical Examiner’s report, and the forensic ballistic report.
Burkman made a statement addressing the MPD’s incompetence and obstruction:
MPD began their investigation of the Seth Rich murder on July 12, 2016 and has not released any new information since October 16, 2016. The case is now clearly a cold case. MPD essentially terminated their efforts in late October 2016. As such, the release of the desired information would not and could not harm MPD’s efforts in any way, as there is no continuing effort.
This follows the request for information that Seth Rich’s family made last week. The Rich family has been quick to dismiss the “non-official theory” of Seth Rich’s murder. However, their request suggests that may be changing. Their statement was released through family spokesperson Brad Bauman:
The family has full confidence in the Metropolitan Police Department’s ability to proceed with this investigation. But given the large amount of hearsay and conspiracy theories surrounding the case, maybe it’s time for the police department to be more forthcoming with information regarding the investigation and to update the people of Washington, D.C. on the status of the case.
Jack Burkman has been a champion for the public investigation into Seth Rich’s murder. Burkman is a Republican lobbyist who was briefly associated with the Rich family. In Novemeber 2016, he and the Rich family held a press conference together in which Burkman announced that he would be spearheading an independent investigation in association with the family.
The partnership was short-lived. The Rich family has distanced themselves from him once he began to investigate and entertain “conspiracy” theories that were not aligned with official statements from police. It is unclear why the Rich family would support an independent investigation at all if they were only interested in official statements.
